What is Five in a Row?
Five in a Row (FIAR) is an excellent, literature-based unit study homeschool curriculum. Each unit is centered around one book, which is read daily for five days. During that week, you do various activities involving the themes presented in the book. There are FIAR volumes available for ages 2-12, as well as a Christian character supplement and a cookbook.
What is a Five in a Row Bin?
When you request a FIAR Bin, we will put together a box that includes the main FIAR title, as well as a selection of “go-along” titles to be used throughout the week. When you sign up for a FIAR membership, we will ask you which volume(s) you plan to use for the school year so we can begin gathering books for you and hunting for additional titles to fill in any gaps.
Still not sure how this works? Here is an example: The Book The Story About Ping is one of the titles covered in FIAR Volume 1. This book is about a duck, and the story takes place in China near the Yangtze River. A FIAR bin for this title would include a copy of The Story About Ping, along with books on topics such as China, ducks, rivers, buoyancy, water, reflections, etc. Every book you need for your unit study will be right there in the box!
Our Five in a Row Collection
While we do not lend out the actual FIAR curriculum, we do have several volumes in the library for you to flip through. We have been collecting the literature titles for years, many of which are hard to find or out of print. Unless we have multiple copies of these books, they are only available with a FIAR or Premium membership. Following is a current list of FIAR literature titles in our collection:
